Sestina (attempt)

ANDY SEWINA
They said I’ve got to write a sestina
I said my name is Andy Sewina
Would you like a bite of my banana
How long till you get some new pyjama
Is that a felt hat or a fedora
Did you sail into the new marina

I once met a mermaid called Marina
I thought I’d tell you in this sestina
That I always wear an old fedora
She said is your name Andy Sewina
Lemontina do you wear pyjama
Oh but please please don’t drive me banana

Joey likes to eat yellow banana
When he pedalo to the marina
Everybody loves his blue pyjama
When he goes siesta with sestina
He dreams that he is Andy Sewina
Wearing a big coat and a fedora

You really can’t ignore a fedora
Even a squishy squashy banana
Won’t make you into Andy Sewina
So don’t go try to swim the marina
Who said it’s complicated sestina
It’s so easy peasey in pyjama

Do the drama school supply pyjama
I’ll bring a pair under my fedora
It’s time for us to sing my sestina
Ba ba ba bana bana banana
Ma ma ma mamma ma ma marina
Yeah lemontina Andy Sewina

Dance like fiesta Andy Sewina
Do Sucu sucu Cuba pyjama
Discotina down to the marina
Don’t forget to don your old fedora
Ba ba ba bana bana banana
Singer ringer dinger my sestina

Dreamer dreamer sestina pyjama
Andy Sewina with his fedora
Slip don’t trip banana skin marina

When hell freezes over...

COLD
First of all, I must tell you that I have a very nasty cold, so bad that I've been laid up for the best part of the last couple of days. These things happen but they always take me by surprise. It must be ten years since I felt so rotten. Even now as I sit down to write this my nose is streaming.
COLDER
Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, Jack phoned up and asked for a lift home, so I drove across town to collect him. By the time I got there I was feeling rotten again, coughing and eyes watering and freezing cold.
COLDER STILL
Phew, this is a really gloomy bloggage this week, but 'ang on a mo' it gets worse. I was meant to be going down to Sale tonight for the poetry night at the Waterside Arts Centre, but of course it wouldn't have been right, for all I know I might have the flu, perish the thought. Anyway, today is even colder than yesterday was and in just forty-eight hours I have to drive two-hundred and twenty miles to south London. Such is life..
HIVE MAGAZINE
You can now check out three of my poems Online at Hive Magazine. I also have three poems from my Merseyside collection at Poem 800. And if you want to read my latest really bad poetry you only need clink-the-link to SweetTalkingGuy
SHOP LOCAL
Don't you just hate losing things? I do and I'm sure I just lost a five pound note in my local shop. Anyway, one of my favorite local shops Henson's Hardware on Great Western Street Moss Side has just been awarded the Hardware Retailer of the year award by the British Hardware Federation. If anyone deserves it, they do!

Dropping like flies...

BACK TO NORMAL?
Things are just about back to normal and in this house that means complete chaos. We/I started decorating the back room about a week before Christmas and of course it was never going to be finished in time was it? Well, no it wasn't and it still isn't! So what's new?
DIET WHAT?
Did I say I was starting the diet on Christmas eve? Dream on! I meant February 2nd. Honest! You see I figured out that the best day of the whole year to start a new diet is February 2nd. so that's when it's going to happen.
WEIGHT LOSS
The other thing I said was that I was going to lose the weight first and then go on the diet. So did I? Well nearly! I got very close, within twenty pounds of my target weight and then I went chocolate crazy! Only choking, I went cake mad! Well anyway, so close and yet still FAT! But, tomorrow is another day and another opportunity for me (and you) to succeed.
HIVE MAGAZINE
I've posted a couple of poems on a blog at Hive Magazine, the first one Speaking Mancunian I wrote specially for them, I wasn't too happy about the way it penned but I stuck it up anyhow. No one has left a comment on the post so I really don't know how well it went. The second one I posted was Shining Shoes, again no comments, how frustrating! The problem is though that you have to be registered to comment which in my opinion defeats the object, 'cos if the readers can't comment (only other contributors are allowed to ) then you don't get any feedback - where's the joy in that?
RAW MEAT 100th. ISSUE
This month sees the 100th. Issue of Nicola's Online Newsletter Raw Meat. So Congratulations Nic! Here's to the next 100!
FINALLY FINALLY
Don't forget you can read, criticise, comment or complain about my really bad poetry over at my main pub-poetry site SweetTalkingGuy!...
If you want to read some good poetry you could try our Stan's blog Elephant Small, he hasn't posted for a few weeks but it's well worth scrolling down the pages to unearth some real gems. He is also posting extracts from his novel The Fourth Millennium.
